Live Cell Controller

Project Description
Our client developed an imaging device to study live cells, taking cytology into the digital age. Eggenberger Automation was contracted to develop a device to mix carbon dioxide with air to produce a regulated mixture with the option of humidification. This gas mixture is used to provide a suitable environment for cells to live while being studied.
Project Skills
Product Design, Prototyping, Manufacturing, Engineering Analysis, Inventory Management
Product Design
The device contains a mixing chamber where air and CO2 mix, a vacuum pump, solenoid valves, controllers, a CO2 sensor, a means to integrate with a PC via USB communication, and a block heater to heat water used to humidify the gas mixture.
Design for Manufacture
All of the various supporting components are housed in a custom designed cabinet and modularized for efficient assembly. The machined parts are made in-house, while the sheet metal parts are sourced to one of our vendors.
The Finished Product
Our client was very pleased with the end product. The Live Cell Controller became one of the products we regularly manufacture, test, manage inventory for, and ship to our client. These units are installed world-wide and have proven to be very reliable.
